AdventHealth announced on October 26 that an investigational robotic prostatectomy had connected its Celebration and Minneola hospitals in Florida the previous day. The surgeon controlled MicroPort MedBot's Toumai system from Celebration, while a bedside team able to intervene remained with the patient about 35 miles away.
The hospital explicitly describes the procedure as research under an FDA Investigational Device Exemption. Researchers are assessing surgical outcomes together with network performance, cybersecurity, alarms, contingency procedures and operational workflows.

Summary
An investigational Toumai procedure linked hospitals about 35 miles apart under an FDA IDE, not commercial authorization.
Editorial view
Editorial view: evaluating remote surgical robotics requires attention to communications, security, bedside staffing and fallback systems as well as robot performance.
Evidence and limitations
One investigational case does not establish general safety or effectiveness, FDA commercial approval or clearance for this use, or nationwide deployment. Connectivity failure and the need for on-site takeover remain among the risks under study.
